Jane Koepke is a lifelong Yukoner and principal of a small consultancy that provides planning and project management services in the fields of community development, parks, recreation, and tourism. Jane’s work seeks to strengthen connections between citizen engagement, environmental and economic sustainability, and health and wellness. Jane is a Registered Professional Planner and recipient of the Governor General’s Meritorious Service Medal for founding the Singletrack to Success Project in 2005.
In 2005, Jane set out to transform an economically and socially troubled rural Yukon community into a mountain bike destination in partnership with the local First Nation. Their story is told in the award-winning documentary film, “SHIFT”. Jane will talk about the unlikely success that ensued and her insights into the rewards and challenges of pursuing mountain bike tourism as a vehicle for positive change in a community.
